INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background

            Food pack is the part of food which we consume every day. For most people food pack is only food pack and considers being protector of food. No everything of food pack is good for our health and sometimes we don’t realize it. Advisable, we must be careful to choose food pack. Food packs have health function as pickling, promotion, information and protector of food.

            There are so many substances which are used as primary pack of food, that are direct come into food. But, one of them is danger for our health. Long time ago, food pack and substances of food made from nature especially lamellar foliage of banana, maize leaf, till basin weaved from bamboo, like bamboo bucket for example. Along with technological growth and life style, place and the natural food packer were left by society and its identical is not hygienic, impractical, and then it is changed by the packer or place made in human whom we use such as paper, plastic, and Styrofoam.

            During the time, place and food packer is true creating the practical impression, simple and clean. How with its negativity side? Is it peaceful for health? So, we must be careful and we must keep our health because all of them from paper, plastic and Styrofoam can cause cancer inside our body.

1.2 Problem

            There is problem in this working paper is danger of food pack

1.3 Purpose

            To inform for society about danger of food pack, so they can be careful to choose food for their health

SOLUTION

2.1 Definition of Food Pack

            Food pack is the part of food which we consume every day. Food packs have function as pickling, promotion, information and protector of food.

2.2 Kinds of Food Pack

     2.2.1 Paper

              Some paper of pack and non-pack (paper of newspaper and magazine) which is often used to wrap the food, detected to contain the lead ( Pb) exceed the determined boundary. In human body lead come into our body by our hand, digestion tract, respiratory tract and going to system of blood circulation and then spread to tissues like kidney, liver, brain, nerve and bone. Poisoned of lead at adult has symptom 3 P, that is pallor (pale), pain & paralysis. To protect from food which is contamination metal of lead, it is not easy. A lot of  eat snack of food like banana fry and the soybean cake fry wrapped with the newspaper  because of less knowledge  the seller, though fatty and hot substance is easy to make a move timbale into food . As effort prevention, put eat snack of food in a plate.

There is also, rice paper which is layered by the plastic and the paper experience of whitening. At a research for pregnancy woman which is a lot of lead accumulation, can result in viable at fetus and damage brain so that can cause low intellegence for child. For adult men, the lead degrades the quality sperm so that complicate to have the clan (barren). And for children, lead results the degradation of energy of concentration and intelligence. Using paper which have been whitened and often used as teabag packer is dangerous for body. This paper is dangerous because the paper has been mixed with whitener (chlorine), an element which can generate cancer. Example of using this paper is teabag and tissue.

     2.2.2 Styrofoam

            Styrofoam (Polystyrene) is a strong plastic created from erethylene and benzine that can be injected, extruded, or blow molded making it a very useful and versatile manufacturing material. Most of us recognize polystyrene in the form of Styrofoam used for beverage cups and packaging peanuts. However, polystyrene is also used as a building material, with electrical appliances (light switches and plates), and in other household items. Styrofoam which is made of this copolymer styrene become the choice of food business because of able to prevent the leakage and remain to maintain its form when it hold on.

            Except that, the substance also able to maintain the heat and chilled, but remain to be comfortable when it hold on maintaining the freshness and substance of pack perfection, cheap , safer,  and also light. The Residue of Styrofoam can cause endocrine disrupter (EDC), that is a disease which occurs because there is trouble at endocrinology system and reproduce of human because of carcinogen chemicals in food.

     2.2.3 Can

          Can is utilized for package of food is peaceful enough, limited to rustless, not crushed and not leak. But, if we will consume the food which is packed in the can, it needs to reheat that is more than l5 minutes to obviate the existence of E-Coli. Generally, food product has a pack in can will loss feel as fresh and experience of the degradation value of nutrient because of processing with the high temperature. One more problem which also bother enough, there is taste taint can or taste like the iron because of imperfect coating can.

          Especial danger at can food is the growing of bacterium of Clostridium botulinum which can cause the poisoned botulinin. Symptoms of Poisoned botulinin for example red lane become stiff, eye have firefly and spastic bringing death because of difficult to breathing.

2.2.4 Glass

          Glass is peaceful substance of pack. Glass a lot of used for wrap of beverage or food which have been processed by ferment process like piccalilli, taoco, ketchup, and others.

2.2.5 Plastic

          Every day we use the plastic to process, save and food pack. Plastic is one of substance which we can meet in almost every goods. From the bottle drink, domestic equipments, television, refrigerator, paralon pipe, laminating plastic, compact disk, machine, military appliance till pesticide. One of goods which use plastic and contain the Bisphenol-A is industry of food and beverage as place of food depositor, plastic of food cover,  bottle mineral and bottle baby. Plastic a lot of used because cheap, durable and light. However plastic is also dangerous to environment and our family health. Bisphenol A is vandal of hormone. Bisphenol-A with the low dose with a few affect to health, like permanent change at privy parts organ, improving prostate rate, obstetrical degradation of hormone testoteron, enabling the happening of bosom cancer, prostate cell become more sensitive to hormone and cancer, and make the somebody become hyperactive.

          What is the meaning of symbols which we meet at various plastic products?

This sign usually as described logo recycle with the number 1 in between and also article of PETE or PET( polyethylene terephthalate) under trilateral. Usually type of this plastic is used for the bottle of plastic, clear chromatic / transparent / like  bottle mineral, juice bottle, and most of all other beverage bottle. Require to be paid attention is, bottle with this substance is recommended FOR ONCE USE. If excessively used, and surely used for the keep of warm water and surely heat, it will result the polymer of coat at the bottle will melt and releases the carcinogenic (can cause the cancer) on a long term.

Generally, at underside of pack of plastic bottle, as described logo recycle with the number 2 in between its, and also article HDPE ( high density polyethylene) under trilateral.   HDPE usually used for the bottle of milk which white chromatic of milk, Tupperware, drinking water gallon drinking, camp chair, and others. HDPE is one of substances plastic which is safe to be used because its ability to prevent the chemical reaction between pack of plastic HDPE with the food / beverage. HDPE has the stronger substance, ossify, blur and more hold up to high temperature. Same as PET, HDPE is also recommended JUST TO ONCE USAGE, because release of compound of antimony trioxide increasing along time.

 This is type of plastic which is difficult to be recycled. At the pack which contain this type of plastic as described logo recycle (sometimes red color) with the number 3 in between and also article V. That V means the PVC (polyvinyl chloride). This plastic can be found at packer plastic (cling wrap) and some bottle of pack beverage. This plastic is dangerous for the health because PVC contain the DEHA which can react with the food wrapped by the plastic of PVC, when it direct contact with the food. Because,  DEHA can be melted at the temperature 15 degree Celsius. React that happened between PVC with the food wrapped by this plastic have dangerous potency for the kidney, liver and discharge heavy of body.

As described logo recycle with the number 4 in between and also article LDPE. LDPE (low density polyethylene) that is brown type plastic (thermoplastic / made of a petroleum), it usually used for the place of food, pack plastic, and flabby bottle. Characteristic mechanical of type this plastic LDPE is strength, rather translucent, flexible and surface rather fatty. At the temperature under 60 degree Celsius is very resistant to chemical compound, energy protect to vapour is good, however unfavorable for other gas like oxygen. This plastic is difficult to be broken but it can be recycled. This substance is GOOD TO FOOD PLACE, because it is difficult reacts with the food wrapped with this substance.

         

As described logo recycle with the number 5 in between, and also article PP. Characteristic is transparent bottle which is not clear. Polypropylene is stronger and lighter with the low vapour penetrability, resilience which is well to the fat, stable to high temperature and lustrous enough. PP type (polypropylene) is best plastical stuff choice, especially for the place of food and beverage like larder; bottle drink and bottle primal drink to baby.

As described logo recycle with the number 6 in between and also article PS. PS (polystyrene). PS usually is used as substance of place food the Styrofoam, place drink once use, and others. Polystyrene is the aromatic polymer which can release the substance styrene into food when the food comes into contact with it. Besides food place, styrene also can be got from smoke, smoke of vehicle and substance of building construction. This substance HAVE TO BE AVOIDED, because besides dangerous for the health of brain, bothering hormone estrogen at woman which causing at problem reproduce, and growth and nervous system, also because this substance is difficult to be recycled. If it has to be recycled, PS need long time and long process.

As described logo recycle with the number 7 in between, and also article OTHER. For the type of this  7 Other plastic there are 4 types, that are PC - polycarbonate, SAN - styrene acrylonitrile, ABS - acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, and Nylon. OTHER can be found at the place of food and beverage like bottle drink the athletics, car access, utensil and furniture, computer, electronic appliance, and pack plastic. PC IS NOT SUGGESTED TO BE UTILIZED for the place of food and or beverage. Cause, it can release   the core of substance that is Bisphenol A into food and beverage which have  potency to damage  hormone system, chromosome at ovary, degradation produce the sperm, and alter the immunity function.

2.3 Side effects of Bisphenol-A

·       Bosom cancer

·       Prostate cancer

·       Kidney Trouble

·       Damage of cell of ovum and chromosome

·       Bothering quality of hormone testosterone

·       Bothering production sperm

·       Hyperactive 8.

·       Obesities because of increase product the fat cell

·       Resistant to insulin

·       Liver trouble

2.4 Using plastic that is correct

Ø   Prevent the using of feeding-bottle and baby cup (with its inhalator hole) which has polycarbonate, try to select and use the feeding-bottle of contain glass, polyethylene, or polypropylene.

Ø   Use the cup of baby which contains stainless steel, polypropylene, or polyethylene. For the dot, use which contain silicon, because it will not release the carcinogenic as at dot which has latex.

Ø   If using of plastic which has polycarbonate cannot be prevented, don't store drinking water  or food in a  heat condition

Ø   Avoid the using of bottle plastic for store of drinking water. If use of bottle plastic which has PET (code 1) and HDPE (code 2), cannot be prevented, use for once used and immediately finished because release of compound of antimony trioxide increasing with along time. Alternative substance which can be used is bottle of stainless steel or glass.

Ø   Prevent to heat the food which is wrapped in plastic, especially at microwave oven, which can result the chemical there is found on the plastic and react with food quicker. This matter can be happened if pack plastic used for wrap fatty or oily food.

3.1 Conclusion

            Food pack is the part of food which we consume every day. Food packs have function as pickling, promotion, information and protector of food. But food pack has danger for our body which we don’t know about it. So be careful to food pack because it can result the death.
